Well hello! This is Ryan and this is my very first blog post ever. It's good to be here.
I'm happy to introduce what we hope to make a semi-frequent feature, one of our favorite artistic pastimes -- Exquisite Corpse drawings.
A brief history...
Exquisite Corpse is a game said to have been invented by the Surrealists.
Lucy taught it to me one day while taking a train ride from Eugene to Portland. The concept (or the way we do it) is to take a sheet of paper, fold it into fourths, and have one person draw a head, then they draw connecting lines for the neck for the next person. That person then draws the midsection (without seeing the head), and the next person draws the waist/upper legs, and the next person finishes it off drawing the rest of the legs.
Like so...
Craziness and creativity is highly encouraged throughout the process.
Hilarity and awe inevitably ensue when the final drawing is revealed.
There are, of course, many variations of the game. You could even do it with writing and lots of other mediums I'm sure (the Wikipedia link has tons of examples I didn't even know about).
Lucy and I have a vast archive of pieces we've done together in the past 8 or 9 years and we'll feature some of our favorites here, as well as some brand new ones.
Here are a few doozies from the past we'd like to kick things off with...
Printing these out and coloring them is highly encouraged (click the images for larger, more coloring friendly, files).
Enjoy!
